British and Irish poker players have been logging some incredible volume at the online tables these past couple of weeks. When great players play a lot of poker, they tend to get their hands on massive scores. That’s exactly what’s happened.
Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford enjoyed a fruitful week, one that saw him soar to the top of the UK standings and to second in the world. Beresford started by banking $13,675 for a fourth-place finish in the PokerStars$1,050 Daily Warm-Up.
He then scooped several four-figure prizes before landing the $180,438 top prize in the $5,200 NLHE 8-Max High Rollers Kickoff at PokerStars. That is Beresford’s largest online cash to date. We only hope he updates his partypoker alias on his PocketFives profile so he starts challenging the seemingly uncatchable Niklas “Lena900” Astedt in the worldwide rankings.
Beresford leapfrogged Patrick “pleno1” Leonard in the UK standings. Leonard has been suffering with the coronavirus yet still managed to get his grind on and bag some big scores. He won the PokerStars Big $215 for $5,351, scooped $8,681 for a runner-up finish in a $75K Gtd Bounty Hunter at partypoker and walked away with scores of $32,408 and $22,827 in PokerStars High Rollers!
The rankings have two new names in them this week. Daniel “judgedredd13” Charlton returned to the top 20 on the back of his $25,000+ prize for finishing second in the PokerStars $1,050 Sunday Cooldown PKO.
Ryan “ryanp” Plant is the other new name. Plant won the GGMasters at GGPoker for a cool $60,754 and won another $23,114 less than 24-hours later in the GGPokerZodiac Dragon High Roller. Plant is definitely one to watch in the coming weeks.
Several other of our players padded their bankrolls with sizeable prizes last week.
Tyler “wonderboy222” Goatcher continued his purple patch with a $28,158 prize in a partypoker POWERFEST PKO event, a similar prize Patrick “thebigdog09” Brooks netted for winning a $150K Gtd POWERFEST PKO; Brooks won $27,084.
Ben “jenbizzle” Jones scooped a $37,169 prize at PokerStars while the legendary Chris “Moorman1” Moorman won $13,088 in a $30,000 Gtd event at WSOP Nevada.

Ronan Sweeney Still Leads in Ireland
Ronan “Sw33ney” Sweeney is still top dog in the Emerald Isle and is so by almost 400 points. While he didn’t bank any huge scores last week, he did win the Big $109 at PokerStars for $10,576 the day after the rankings’ update so expect Sweeney’s lead to extend.
Sweeney’s nearest rival is James “Jaymo” Noonan who locked up a prize of more than $7,600 when he finished third in a PokerStars France Super Monday tournament. Noonan plays a lot of poker and does have a realistic chance of reeling Sweeney back in.
“Rowniwn” got their hands on several four-figure prizes last week with the largest weighing in at $8,180. This was their reward for finishing sixth in a $1,050 High Roller Series event at PokerStars.
Climbing from seventh-place to fourth this week is Sven “SvenCalls” McDermott. He went on a heater and won more than $8,000 when he took down the $27 Saturday Eliminator at PokerStars. That result was sandwiched between a $5,766 and a $2,212 score, both coming at ‘Stars too.
One of the biggest scores by an Irish player went to Conor 'ccoonnoorr” O’Driscoll when he finished second in the Bigger $55 at PokerStars. It was an impressive result that netted Limerick man a $10,629 addition to his bankroll.
Finally, a few Sunday Million deep runs for Nicholas “YerSoLucky” Newport see him return to the Irish top 20. Newport finished 14th in a Sunday Million for $5,323 and cashed in the 14th Anniversary edition for an additional $4,082.
